History during WWII
This was the launching place for the noted commando raids on Saint-Nazaire in 1942. Between 1943 and 1944, Falmouth was the base for the American troops preparing for the D-Day invasions. There are commemoration plaques honoring the Americans at the Falmouth Watersport marina, Tolverne and Trebah gardens.
